Christmas has always been the biggest holiday in our family, with Thanksgiving right behind it.
Pretty much anything else was nothing too spectacular. Maybe that is why I LOVE holidays. Especially the super random ones like "Talk Like a Pirate Day (9/19)" or "National Cake Day (11/26)", "Pi Day (3/14)" *snicker*, "National Brown-Bag It Day (5/25)", "National Bagelfest (7/26)"--seriously!, "National Craft Month (March)" :), or "Donald Duck Day (6/9)." (I got the dates for the food holidays here. And the weird holidays here.)
I've really come to love Halloween too. Growing up, we didn't really celebrate Halloween. My mom didn't like it because too many people focused on the evil, creepy stuff. I totally get that, but that is why I focus on the fun, light-hearted aspect! (and killer costumes! I've won multiple costume contests.) One of my favorites was a halloween/birthday party I threw for my sister for her 16th birthday. It was a murder mystery party and it was FABULOUS! if I do say so myself. :)
In college, 4th of July was something I always looked forward to. We'd go swimming in the afternoon and head to Idaho Falls, find a spot along the river near the temple, BBQ, chill & play games all evening, and then watch the Melaleuca Fireworks Show (biggest fireworks show west of the Mississippi River)! Those were some of my favorite days in college!
While researching this entry, I discovered a new holiday that I want to start celebrating: "National Cream Puff Day" on January 2nd. I think it is quite an excellent idea to have my Nana's cream puffs to have a day to celebrate them!
Oh, and today is "National Peppermint Patty Day", "Make a Friend Day", "White T-shirt Day" and "Don't Cry Over Spilt Milk Day". Just so you know.
Happy celebrating!! :)
